In March 2025, Phileas hosted a four-day workshop with Reporter-Akademie, in which our six participants gained news skills in narrative journalism and reportage.

As part of the workshop, the participants visited artist studios, which served as a space for dialogue and exchange, allowing the art writers to engage with the artists and their creative processes. As a result of these interactions, each participant produced a reportage capturing their experiences, insights, and reflections. The final texts got published in Austrian media, in collaboration with Die Presse, Falter, Der Standard and Kurier.

  • The Viennese painter Evelyn Plaschg was known for her intimate depictions of the body, but now she is turning her attention to the public space. A politicisation of art in times of a shift to the right?

  • The painter and sculptor Anna Schachinger scrutinises traditional gender roles. In the fight against patriarchy, she sometimes uses an iron in her paintings.

  • Free entry, a glass of wine in your hand, contemporary art - the off-space scene in Vienna is lively and accessible. But this scene is under the threat of massive cuts, fuelled by the political shift to the right.
