Liesl Raff
6th New Museum Triennial, US
5 February – 16 May 2027
Founded in 1977, the New Museum is New York’s leading institution devoted exclusively to contemporary art. Its Triennial is the only recurring exhibition in the city to focus on emerging artists from around the world. The sixth edition, co-curated by Vivian Crockett and Isabella Rjeille, will be the first held in the Museum’s new OMA-designed building, welcoming over 150,000 visitors and presenting many artists in their first major US museum exhibition.
Liesl Raff (born 1979 in Stuttgart) lives and works in Vienna. She creates sculptures and installations that explore how materials evoke connection and collective experience. She works mainly with latex, mixing resin and pigments. Raff casts forms that stretch, fold, or drape like skin. These works are often suspended or supported by steel frameworks, creating spaces that feel both intimate and open.
This is her fourth collaboration with Phileas, following her participation at the 17th Biennale de Lyon in 2024, represented Austria at the 15th Gwangju Biennale in 2024 and the donation of her work Club Liaison in 2025.
This project was aided by a research trip to Vienna by the curator Vivian Crockett, organised by Phileas in March 2024.
