Hiuwai Chu is a Chinese American curator based in Barcelona (ES). She is head of exhibitions at MACBA – Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona (ES), where she has worked since 2007, first as assistant curator and later as curator. She has curated exhibitions featuring artists including Basel Abbas and Ruanne Abou-Rahme, Bouchra Khalili, Lydia Ourahmane, Daniel Steegmann Mangrané, and Akram Zaatari, among others, as well as thematic projects such asUndefined Territories: Perspectives on Colonial Legacies. She recently co-curated Lucid Reverie: Panorama of Portuguese Contemporary Art with Raphael Fonseca at Galeria Municipal do Porto (PT). She is also part of the curatorial team for Tondra, a commission-based initiative by the Samdani Art Foundation (BD).

Chu serves on the advisory board of Cordova, Barcelona (ES) and has previously been a board member of Hangar – Centre for Art Research and Production, Barcelona (ES) and the editorial board of L’Internationale Online. She is co-editor of Climate: Our Right to Breathe (K. Verlag, 2022). Before relocating to Barcelona, she worked as associate editor at the Aperture Foundation, New York (US). She studied anthropology at Barnard College, Columbia University (USA).

Hiuwai Chu will visit Austria on a curatorial exchange with Catapulta in March 2026.
