Abel González Fernández

Abel González Fernández (born 1991 in Havana, Cuba) is a curator and writer focusing on mid-century art and design and global contemporary art practices. His practice explores the intersections of art, design, cultural history, and contemporary exhibition-making.

Fernández is currently Curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (MOCAD), Detroit (US). Before joining MOCAD, he curated exhibitions in Havana (CUB), Berlin (DE), Tokyo (JPN), and New York (US). At MOCAD, he has curated exhibitions including Carole Harris: This Side of the River (2026), ASMA: Wander + Pursuit (2024–25), Kinship: The Legacy of Gallery 7 (2024), and Loris Gréaud: Cortical: Smoke + Mirrors (2026). He also co-curated The Modernist Regime: Cuban Midcentury Design, presented at Cranbrook Art Museum, Detroit (US), and co-authored the accompanying publication (Rizzoli Electa, 2024). He is a contributing writer and advisor to Latin American Artists: From 1785 to Now (Phaidon Press) and graduated from the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College, Annandale-on-Hudson (US), in 2023.
