Constantin Luser

Donation to the Menil Collection, Houston, US

Constantin Luser (born 1976 in Graz, Austria) is a draughtsman and sculptor. His practice bridges drawing, sculpture, and sound. Trained in industrial design and conceptual art, Luser transforms delicate linework into expansive visual systems—his drawings often resemble intricate networks of symbols, words, and abstract forms. Extending this language into three dimensions, he creates “Raumzeichnungen” (spatial drawings) using brass wire, crafting floating sculptures that cast shadow drawings onto surrounding surfaces.

The dynamic wire sculpture RELATION (2024) reimagines drawing as spatial and sculptural, expanding the boundaries of line and form. The work was part of the exhibition What Drawing Can Be: Four Responses, which Phileas supported. In addition to this donation, the Menil Collection has acquired the work HEAD (2024), a work that was on display in the exhibition. The museum also received a donation of drawings from Luser’s performance Sound Activations (22 March 2025), enriching their collection with works by an artist whose interdisciplinary approach continues to expand the possibilities of contemporary drawing.
